How to Help My Child Eat More Foods

Writer: Tiana QuituguaTiana Quitugua

scoop speech sensory ladder

Building positive food interactions as well as trust and confidence around food are foundational to increasing the amount and types of food your child eats.

Follow this sensory ladder to increase your child’s interactions with new foods!

Move at your child’s pace and hold off on moving to another sensory step if your child is showing any aversive reactions (e.g., grimacing, crying, protesting, pushing food away, turning their head away). Have positive conversation about foods talking about what it looks, smells, feels, and tastes like (e.g., It's your favorite color! Yum, crunchy like chips!, Mmm sweet! I like it.)!

Have lots of fun building positive food connections!
