A Speech-Language Pathologist can help your child grow and develop a wide range of skills including:

  • Expressive Language- communicating thoughts, wants, needs, feelings

  • Receptive Language- understanding others

  • Pragmatic Language- language and social skills needed to initiate, maintain, and engage in social situations like play and conversation for interpersonal relationships

  • Articulation- the way we say spoken words and how well we are understood by others

  • Phonological Awareness- skills needed for literacy and speech sound development

  • Feeding- eating and drinking age-appropriate foods and drinks for adequate nutrition, mealtime routines and behaviors

  • Swallowing- oral and pharyngeal phases of a swallow, safe swallowing positioning, diet modification

  • Fluency- stuttering and ease of spoken speech

  • Cognitive communication- skills that allow us to interact with others including problem solving, reasoning, and executive functioning skills (e.g., attention, planning, working memory, flexible thinking, metacognition)

  • Voice- vocal quality, pitch, loudness

Consult a SLP if you are concerned about any of these areas!
